Dad Crush Monday: Tom Hardy

By Mummyfique

He has appeared in leading roles in three major movies over the last few years, yet you may not have seen Edward Thomas Hardy’s face much when catching him on the big screen since he spent the majority of his time in those roles under a mask. Known professionally as Tom Hardy, since he shares the same first name with his dad, he played the role of the iconic villain, Bane, in The Dark Knight Rises and Max Rockatansky in Mad Max: Fury Road with his face partially concealed. His latest role as Royal Air Force pilot Farrier in the World War II thriller, Dunkirk, sees him covered up yet again – this time his face is concealed by a helmet and goggles.

Of course, not all his roles have had him covered up and the Hollywood A-lister has quite an impressive acting resume, including an Academy Award’s Best Supporting Actor nomination. However, his pride and joy are his two little ones, eight-year-old Louis Thomas Hardy and a two-year-old child whose name and gender the protective dad has kept under wraps.

His appearance in Dunkirk is not the first time that he has collaborated with director Christopher Nolan. They had previously worked together for The Dark Knight Rises and Inception. Christopher said that when he completed the script for Dunkirk, he knew that only Tom could play the lead role, which had few words and many physical restrictions as most of the film was spent in a plane cockpit.

Chris Nolan on his Dunkirk cast:"I firmly and passionately believe this is one of the greatest casts put together for any movie."👍

Not all his roles have been played under a mask. Tom has acted in other blockbuster hits such as Locke, This Means War and The Revenant, with his handsome face in full view.

Despite his fame, the actor remains down-to-earth, humble and appreciative of his fans. In fact, you could say that Tom Hardy loves his fans as seen by the countless pictures you see on social media of him with his fans.

The actor hasn’t always been on the straight and narrow though. He has had several run-ins with the law and has admitted to having a cocaine and alcohol addiction in the past where he said he would have “sold my mother for a rock of crack.” It was only after waking up in a pool and vomit that he checked himself into rehab, and ever since, he has remained clean.

He has credited becoming a dad as a motivating force for staying clean. His firstborn, Louis, who he had with ex-girlfriend Rachel Speed, entered his life in 2008, and from the get go, Tom was smitten with his little one, and he has shared photos of the two of them together over the years.

He has even posted a video of the two rapping together.

Surprisingly, the actor has been very private about his second child. Both him and his wife, actress Charlotte Riley, have kept their child’s gender and name a secret, and no photo of the little one’s face has been leaked to the press. Based on an interview with the actress, if she were to have her way, the pair will be adding to their little family as Charlotte has said before that “I want babies, lots of them. Definitely, absolutely definitely.

With things on all fronts going well for Tom, we can’t wait to see what’s next on his plate, be it more exciting and challenging roles on screen or being a dad yet again.
